Megan Good of Mount Sidney Named Top 10 Finalist for USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year

2017 May 15

For the second consecutive season, junior pitcher/utility player Megan Good was selected as one of 10 finalists for the 2017 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year, as announced by the organization on Wednesday afternoon.

Now in its 16th year, the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award, which is considered the most prestigious honor in Division I women's collegiate softball, recognizes the outstanding athletic achievement by Division I female players across the country.

The top three finalists will be announced on May 24, while the winner of the 2017 honor will be announced at the opening of the 2017 NCAA Women's College World series in Oklahoma City.

Good made Colonial Athletic Association history as she became the first player in league history to win Player and Pitcher of the Year in the same season. She also received All-CAA First Team accolades.

She leads the nation in victories with a 34-1 record in the circle, setting JMU's single-season wins record. She has tallied a nation-best 13 shutouts, a single-season record, helping JMU to a program-high 24 shutouts over the 2017 season. Good ranks second in the nation with a 0.47 ERA over 207.2 innings of work, having allowed just 14 earned runs. Her ERA was helped by a streak of 70.1 scoreless innings of softball, the 11th-longest streak in NCAA history.

The right-hander has struck out a single-season record total of 244 to rank 11th nationally and earlier the season she became JMU's all-time leader in career wins as her record in the circle now stands at 95-7. Over her junior season, Good tossed her fourth career no-hitter and blanked No. 2 Auburn, the first time the Tigers had been shutout since the 2015 season.

At the plate, Good is just as dangerous. She ranks second in the conference with a .394 average with 63 hits over the regular season. The leads the league with 51 RBIs, the third-most over a single-season in school history. She also leads the team in multi-RBI games with 15 while tallying 18 multi-hit outings. She has knocked 11 doubles and 10 home runs for a .650 slugging percentage, which ranks third in the CAA. Aided by 24 walks, Good holds a .468 on-base percentage heading into the postseason.
