Megan Good of Mount Sidney Unanimously Selected as NFCA First Team All-American

2017 Jul 6

James Madison softball's junior pitcher/utility player Megan Good earned a unanimous selection to the National Fastpitch Coaches Associations All-America First Team, the organization announced Wednesday.

Good secures her third consecutive NFCA All-America honor and becomes the first Duke in program history to boast two NFCA All-America First Team laurels, earning her first as a sophomore in 2016.

The honor is added to a staggering list of accolades that Good has received over her junior campaign. Earlier this month, she became the first student-athlete in Colonial Athletic Association history to ever be named Pitcher and Player of the Year in the same season. She was selected as the Eastern College Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year and secured All-CAA, NFCA All-Northeast Region and All-ECAC First Team honors while being named the Most Outstanding Performer during the 2017 CAA Championships as she led JMU to its second consecutive conference title. Good also earned CAA Pitcher or Player of the Week 10 times over the regular season.

Rounding out her 2017 honors, Good was named one of three finalists for USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year, becoming the first JMU student-athlete to be named a top three finalist for the award. Florida's sophomore pitcher Kelly Barnhill, the 2017 Southeastern Conference Player of the Year, won the award Tuesday evening and joined Good as a unanimous selection to the first team.

Good leads the nation with a 38-3 record in the circle, setting JMU's single-season wins record. She has also tallied a nation-best 14 shutouts, which helped JMU to a program-high 28 shutouts over the 2017 season. Her 0.63 ERA is a JMU single-season low and is also the third-lowest mark in all of Division I softball. Her ERA was helped by a scoreless inning streak of 70.1 innings, the 11th-longest streak in NCAA history and the longest streak by any player since 2009.

Over 244.2 innings of work, Good has allowed just 22 earned runs off 125 hits and 35 walks while striking out 271 batters. Earlier this season, Good became JMU's all-time leader for wins in the circle, closing her junior season with a 99-9 career mark. During the 2017 season, Good tossed her fourth career no-hitter against (RV) South Alabama and blanked then-ranked No. 2 Auburn, the first time the Tigers have been shut out since the 2015 season.

In the circle, Good has either tied or set a total of 13 single-season pitching records this season including ERA, batting average against (.147), walks allowed per seven innings (1.00), wins, appearances (44), starts (43), complete games (23), shutouts, combined shutouts (8), innings pitched, strikeouts, batters faced (916) and at bats against (853).

Dangerous on both sides of the ball, Good also led JMU at the plate with a .383 average with a career-best 69 hits. She led the CAA with 58 RBIs, the third-most over a single season in JMU history. She also led the Dukes with 17 multi-RBI games while closing the season with 19 multi-hit outings. She's knocked 11 doubles and a team-high 12 home runs for a .644 slugging percentage, the second-highest mark in the conference. Aided by 28 walks, Good closed the year with a .464 on-base percentage.

The lone CAA student-athlete to earn an All-America nod, Good was one of 55 players honored as NFCA All-Americans and was just one of seven to earn unanimous selections to the first team.
