Claire Adkins of Martinsville Named to the CAA All-Academic Team

Claire Adkins of James Madison swimming and diving was honored Thursday as a member of the 2016-17 Colonial Athletic Association All-Academic team.

Adkins is a standout student and is earning her degree in political science with plans to attend law school upon graduation. Over her career, Adkins is a five-time President's List and two-time Dean's list honoree. She has named a JMU Athletics Director Scholar-Athlete four times and has been selected a CAA Commissioner's Academic Award on two occasions.

She has served as a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, which was established to provide a voice for the JMU student-athletes and to maintain an open channel of communication with athletic administration and the JMU community, since her sophomore season and has served as the organization's president over the 2016-17 academic year. She was recently named to the 2017 CAA All-Academic team for the 2016-17 swimming and diving season

Adkins has competed in distances events throughout her four-year career with the Dukes. This season, Adkins earned her first All-CAA accolades of her career after winning the 400 individual medley at the 2017 CAA Swimming and Diving Championships with a time of 4:19.54, the second-fastest time in school history.

Over her career, Adkins has also turned in Top 10 program times in the 500, 1000 and 1650 freestyle events. She is a six-time finalist over her career at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships. Over her senior season, Adkins turned in eight top three finishes in dual competition.
