Haley Warden Named CAA Defensive Player of the Week

2017 Mar 7

Following a dominant 20-goal win last week, James Madison junior midfielder Haley Warden was named Colonial Athletic Association Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week, the CAA announced Tuesday.

JMU improved to 5-1 this season with a 21-1 triumph against Longwood on Friday, March 3. It was the team's sixth 20-goal win all-time and was tied for the third-largest win in school history. The Dukes held an opponent to one goal or fewer for just the 16th time ever and for the first time since the 2003 season.

Warden racked up eight hustle stats with four ground balls, two caused turnovers and two draw controls. Her ground-ball total tied her career high. The Glen Mills native also provided offense, scoring three points off two goals and an assist. She leads the CAA in draw controls (4.0) and is second in caused turnovers (2.33).

It is the third career weekly award for Warden. JMU has won four CAA honors this season, which is tied with Towson for the league lead.

The 18th-ranked Dukes hit the road to face No. 6 Penn State on Wednesday, March 8 in University Park, Pa. The game will be streamed live on GoPSUSports.com.
