Megan Good of Mount Sidney Earns Second Straight CAA Pitcher of the Week Honor

After guiding James Madison softball to an undefeated weekend at the Michele Smith Pediatric Cancer Invitational, junior Megan Good of Mount Sidney was named Colonial Athletic Association Pitcher of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.

The honor is the second of the season for Good and the ninth of her decorated career.

The Dukes earned five victories in Clearwater, Fla., including four consecutive shutouts, to improve to 8-1 on the season. The weekend's success propelled James Madison one spot in both the NFCA/USA Today Coaches Poll and the ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 to No. 13 and No. 15, respectively.

Good improved to 5-0 on the season with three victories in Clearwater. The junior allowed just two earned runs over 20.0 innings of work for a 0.70 ERA. The Mount Sidney, Va. native pitched a complete-game shutout and combined for a second shutout performance with redshirt sophomore Jessica McCabe. The junior allowed just eight hits and five walks in her three appearances while striking out 35 batters.

After starting the season with 19.1 shutout innings, Good allowed her first runs of the year against Oklahoma State before tossing two gems against Wisconsin and Saint Joseph's to close the weekend.

Good with perfect through 5.2 innings of work against the Badgers before Wisconsin recorded its only hit of the game. The junior followed the one-hit performance holding Saint Joseph's to just two hits to help record JMU's fourth consecutive shutout of the weekend. Good struck out a season-high 13 batters twice over the weekend.

Through the first two weekends of the season, Good ranks second nationally in shutouts (3), seventh in strikeouts (52), eighth in victories (5) and ninth in hits allowed per seven innings (2.47).

James Madison treks to Auburn, Ala. this weekend for the Tiger Invitational hosted by No. 2 Auburn. The Dukes open the tournament against UMass Lowell on Friday, Feb. 24 at 11:30 a.m. before facing Yale at 2 p.m. The Dukes will face North Dakota and the host Tigers twice over the three-day tournament. JMU's Sunday, Feb. 26 meeting against Auburn will air on the SEC Network at 2 p.m.
