Megan Good of Mount Sidney Named CAA Pitcher of the Week

2017 Feb 14

Throwing back-to-back shutouts to lead No. 14/16 James Madison softball to a 3-1 start for the second consecutive season, junior Megan Good was tabbed as the first Colonial Athletic Association Pitcher of the Week of the season, the league announced Tuesday. The selection is the eighth of Good's career.

The Mount Sidney, Va. native earned a 6-0 victory in the season-opener against #17/19 Missouri. Striking out 10 Tigers in the contest, Good's first victory of the year made history as the program's 500th victory since its inception in 2002. Good pitched 5.1 innings in her second start in the circle before allowing (RV) USC Upstate to record a hit as the Dukes cruised to a 4-0 win.

Over 14.0 innings, Good allowed just four hits and a lone walk while striking out 17 batters in her two shutout victories. Virtually untouchable in the circle, the junior held opponents to a .083 batting average over the weekend.

At the plate, Good went 3-for-11 for a .273 average over opening weekend. With help of two-RBI home run against Charleston Southern, Good drove home a total of four RBIs to tie for the team lead.

No. 14/16 James Madison softball travels to Clearwater, Fla. to compete in the Michele Smith Pediatric Cancer Foundation Invitational. The Dukes will open the tournament facing (RV) Oklahoma State on Friday, Feb. 17 at 1:30 p.m. before taking on No. 20 USF at 6:15 p.m. JMU will also face Wisconsin, Binghamton and St. Joseph's over the weekend.
