Quinn MacMillan of New Britain Named CAA Swimmer of the Week

Closing the 2016-17 dual season with a split at the JMU Invitational, junior Quinn MacMillan was named Colonial Athletic Association Swimmer of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.

The recognition marks the second of MacMillan's career as she led the Dukes to a 157.0-12.0 victory over VMI during the JMU Invitational. James Madison fell to Marshall 190.5 to 179.5, closes the regular season with an 8-1 record in dual meets.

MacMillan was part of two-record breaking performances over the weekend. The junior set a new Savage Pool record in the 1650 freestyle, winning with a time of 17:05.78 to break the previous record set in 2007 by Towson's Meredith Budner.

The New Britain, Pa. native was also part of the 800 freestyle relay team that posted an event-winning time of 7:32.27 to break a second pool record. The junior earned her third victory of the meet as part of the 400 freestyle relay that touched with a time of 3:28.79.

MacMillan rounded out the weekend with second-place finishes in the 100 freestyle (51.58), the 200 freestyle relay (1:35.67) and the 400 medley relay (3:51.91).

JMU swimming will make the trek to Chapel Hill, N.C. to compete for the Janis Hape Dowd Nike Cup over Feb. 3-5.
